Organic Food Shopping Basics
Research from Consumer Reports' February 2005 issue concludes that some items are worth the organic price premium, but others might not be because their non-organic versions are less likely to be contaminated with pesticides, or they have weak standards associated with the organic label.
BEST TO GET ORGANIC:
· Apples, bell peppers, celery, cherries, imported grapes, nectarines, peaches, pears, potatoes, raspberries, spinach, strawberries
· Meat, poultry, eggs and dairy
· Baby food
BUY ORGANIC ONLY IF PRICE DOESN'T MATTER:
· Asparagus, avocados, bananas, broccoli, cauliflower, corn, kiwi, mangoes, onions, papayas, pineapples, sweet peas
· Breads, oils, potato chips, pasta, cereals, canned and dried fruits and vegetables
